A Romantic Getaway in Byron Bay

If you’re looking for somewhere special to enjoy an unforgettable romantic getaway, you can’t beat staying in Byron Bay at Elements of Byron.

From its breath-taking beaches, pristine waters and lush hinterland, to fine-dining restaurants, quirky art galleries and stylish boutiques, Byron Bay is the perfect place for love and romance.

So that you can slip straight into holiday-romance mode, we’ve created a handy go-to guide showcasing Byron Bay for couples. It’s jam-packed with unmissable places, experiences and insider tips – just be warned, you’re going to fall head over heels for Byron Bay.

The guide is organised into three sections: Amazing Mornings, Memorable Days and Perfect Evenings, and includes the best location to watch the sun set (or rise) and do a spot of star-gazing, plus the best place for a dreamy brunch and the most couple-friendly beaches.

Amazing Mornings

Watching the sun rise over the ocean in Byron Bay is pretty special, and if you’re staying between May and November, you may even spot a whale breaching in the horizon. For pure serenity, you can’t beat catching the sun rise from Belongil Beach, right on the fringe of Elements of Byron resort grounds.

Why not follow this special start to the day with a sun salutation? First Light Yoga is offered for guests every morning at the resort. Your get up and go will be rewarded with an unbroken view of the ocean from Heart of the Bay.

Kicking off the day in such an invigorating way will no doubt fire up an appetite. Enjoy a delicious breakfast for two in Azure Bar and Grill. The hot and cold buffet is brimming with fresh, healthy options and utter indulgence.

Looking to wow the one you love? Why not surprise them with a pre-dawn hot-air balloon ride, which will peak in the sky as the sun rises above the horizon.

Hot Air Balloon trips with Byron Bay Ballooning last around an hour and are followed by a decadent champagne breakfast at The Farm’s Three Blue Ducks restaurant. Silently soaring through Byron’s skies with your loved one huddled close, is surely the best definition of an uplifting experience.

Back on the ground, there are two kilometres of Rainforest Trails to explore at Elements of Byron, weaving through the native landscape at the southern end of the resort.

When curiosity gets the better of you, book a Guided Rainforest Walk with our knowledgeable ranger and discover the stories – old and new – about this beautiful place while spotting the rich wildlife and native foods grown on resort. It’s free and you’ll need to book your walk at reception first.

After all that adventure, take time to unwind at the resort’s Adults Exclusive Pool. Reserved for those 18 years and over, lay back and relax as a couple in your own private cosy cabana before diving into the perfect pool and floating to the swim-up bar.

Left home without a good holiday read? Head into Byron town and visit The Book Room at Byron on Fletcher Street for a browse. This local independent bookshop has a great range of fiction, non-fiction and magazines, so there’s something for everyone.

During your stay, take time to spoil yourselves and indulge in a spa or beauty experience as a couple.

Osprey Spa at Elements of Byron

Enter the light-filled haven of Osprey Spa and choose from decadent rituals, beauty treatments, massages and a wide range of signature treatments from expert therapists.

Therapists can assist you to create a unique experience, whether it be a two hour, half day or full day journey. Or better still, you can request any treatment to be done in the couple’s room side-by-side. Open Saturday – Friday.

  • Footbridge, Brunswick Heads – Watch the world go by and enjoy delicious food with a tranquil river view.

Memorable Days

Byron Bay’s beaches are world renowned – and for good reason. You’ll find surfers, sunbathers and swimmers enjoying their own slice of coastal paradise, with visitors happily rubbing shoulders with locals.

From the intimate feel of idyllic Wategos to the expanse and vibrancy of Main Beach, there really is the perfect beach for everyone in Byron Bay. Spending time finding your ideal stretch of sand is one of many highlights of a romantic getaway in Byron.

Exploring always works up a good appetite and what could be more romantic than a picnic? Order a gourmet picnic hamper – assembled by the Harvest Deli in Newrybar and delivered directly to the resort – and enjoy an idyllic picnic in Byron Bay.

But where to lay out the picnic blanket? For the best view in Byron, head to the Cape Byron Lighthouse. For more seclusion, walk to Little Wategos beach, accessed via the Cape Byron Walking Track. Or for somewhere a little more adventurous, head out to one of Byron Bay’s wonderful waterfalls.

To stay closer to the resort, simply wander down onto Belongil beach or find a quiet spot on the grass at the Heart of the Bay.

Head to Brunswick Heads’ In The Pink, located on The Terrace, for delicious, locally made ice cream. Avoid a lover’s tiff and get a double scoop then wander across the small wooden bridge spanning the tidal Brunswick River.

From finding your own special patch of beach to a sunset riverside stroll, there are so many amazing day trips showcasing the very best of Byron Bay for couples.

While in Byron Bay, get the Byron look.

Local designers have developed a range of contemporary boho styles that have a distinctive Byron Bay flair.

Whether you’re looking for something special for the beach or the perfect date night outfit, browse the best shops in Byron Bay.

Begin at the Habitat precinct, just a short stroll from the resort. With concept stores for men, women, and home, Habitat offers an enviable presentation of the very best local designers, all in the one location.

After you’ve finished browsing and shopping, jump on the Byron Train and coast into town on the world’s first fully solar-powered train.

An experience in its own right, the Byron Solar Train offers views of rainforest, endangered coastal wetlands and the tea-tree stained Belongil Creek while connecting Elements of Byron to the Byron Arts and Industry Estate, northern Sunrise and Byron village centre.

A fully restored train from the 1940’s, the Byron Solar Train has just two stops – North Beach Station, just five minutes walk from Elements of Byron and the centre of Byron village. It’s an easy 10 minute journey to town.

With a village centre that can be traversed on foot in under 20 minutes, it’s a joy to spend an indolent afternoon strolling between the many boutiques that line Byron Bay’s laid-back streets.

For the quintessential Byron look, head to SpellAuguste the Label and Arnhem Labels that have helped put Byron Bay on the world design stage – with floral, earthy, tribal patterns and vintage styles.

The Jonson Lane precinct is a must visit destination for shoppers seeking the unique. Stores here include Nagnata a knit-wear fashion label designed for modern movement and studio-to-street style, and Deiji for high comfort linen bedding and loungewear.

For a more minimalist approach, look no further than St Agni whose Mediterranean-inspired neutral palette would be the perfect fit for a cocktail under the stars at the resort’s Fire Pit.

Finish the look off with a beautiful hat from FallenBROKENStreet, available at their Byron showroom or one of many local boutiques.

After you’ve wandered around all of Byron town centre, head back on the train to the Arts & Industry Estate for some more retail meandering. It’s filled with independent boutiques and pop-up shops, and the perfect place to discover hidden treasures, vintage stores and gorgeous accessories. There are a host of great cafes to try, too.

Ready to shop till you drop? Head out to Bangalow where Byron Street is home to several boutique clothing and home shops. And there are few better villages for vintage gems than Brunswick Heads, where Fabulous Mrs Fox is one of a rich menagerie of stores offering yesteryear’s wonders.

For a Byron Bay taste that cleans the palate and delights your taste buds, it’s time to take a tour.

Distillery and Brewery Tours

Head straight to source and join a tour at Cape Byron Distillery, where the makers of Brookie’s Byron Dry Gin open their farm distillery. There’s even a tour of the subtropical rainforest – where the drink’s botanicals come from – as well as a gin tasting on the veranda.

True beer-lovers will be in their element at Stone & Wood Brewery, just 10 minutes walk from the resort. Try out one of their events where you’ll enjoy tastings, a full tour of the brewery and learn why Stone & Wood make their beer the way they do.

and Perfect Evenings

As the sun sets, thoughts of romance shift to lit candles and holding hands over the dinner table. Stoke the fire with the town’s greatest nightly show: sunset over Byron Bay, which is best watched from Cape Byron Lighthouse.

Once the sun has set, seek an encore in the diverse programme of Byron Theatre. This intimate venue features music, theatre, film and dance performances from local and touring artists, with several shows most weeks.

Alternatively, continue to make Byron’s nature the star of the show by taking a slow stroll along Main Beach to the sounds of the ocean. The acoustic rhythms of buskers who play next to the Surf Club will start to mingle with the sound of the waves.

When it’s time to wine and dine your loved one, head to the best restaurants in Byron Bay. In this great foodie town, there is a wealth of great options to choose from.

What could be better than a romantic dinner, prepared with fine-dining expertise, then an easy amble back ‘home’ to your villa? Celebrating the rich culinary produce of this region, Azure Bar and Grill Dining Room offers an elegant dining experience right here at Elements of Byron.

Our signature dining space enlivens premium, seasonal ingredients in a highly curated menu crafted by Executive Chef Ebony Baker that reads like poetry. Decadent ingredients are handpicked by the world-class chef, then lovingly transformed into a feast worth celebrating. Classy. Cool.

As Byron Bay’s most long-standing restaurant, Beach Byron Bay offers delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes, all with a view of the ocean. Located above Clarkes Beach, this restaurant is romance personified – fine dining to the sound of the waves breaking gently below. Its wine list is award-winning too.

For lunch or dinner in one of Byron’s most idyllic hinterland villages, head to Newrybar and discover Harvest restaurant, sited in a lovingly restored and welcoming old Queenslander. With seasonal produce sourced locally, this award-winning restaurant creates dishes that celebrate the very best of this region and its indigenous ingredients.

Our Locals Guide to Byron’s best restaurants highlights the latest foodie hot-spots.

When it’s time to choose a perfect ending to a beautiful day, there are plenty of Byron Bay bars for couples to pick from.

There are few better places to relax with a tipple than right here at Elements of Byron. Under the night sky, take your glass from the Lobby Bar and sit around the Fire Pit to watch crackling flames dance hypnotically above water.
